Is Jack Gibson Finally Leaving ' Station 19' Here' s What the Show Finally Revealed
By Brittany Frederick Oct. 20 2022, Updated 1:55 p.m. ET Jack Gibson is one of the founding characters in ABC's firefighter drama Station 19. Grey Damon's firefighter has been with the series from its very first episode, and for the first two seasons he was the show's male lead. For a while, it also seemed like Jack and Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz) would be the show's driving couple, much like Meredith and Derek on the drama's parent series Grey's Anatomy. But when other main characters were added to Station 19 to make its ensemble bigger, the series paired Andy with one of those new characters, Robert Sullivan (Boris Kodjoe). That set Jack off on his own path, and he acted as a support for other characters as much as he had his own stories.Article continues below advertisement However, fans have been worried about Jack since the May 12, 2022 episode of Station 19 rocked his world. Season 5, Episode 17, "The Road You Didn't Take," revealed new details about Jack's childhood, including family members he didn't know he had. It also delved into his being abused as a child. That was a huge episode for him, and usually when characters have big revelations about their past, they also start thinking about their future.Source: ABC Jaina Lee Ortiz and Grey Damon in 'Station 19'Article continues below advertisement Some fans have wondered if Jack might rekindle things with Andy (again) since they're both single. Jack had a really rough end to Season 5, which is why it was surprising for many that he found it within himself to come back. Andy stumbled upon Jack's empty locker with a cryptic note that read, "You're welcome." Because it's Andy, she tried to go after Jack, but he was in his car and on his way by the time she caught up.Article continues below advertisement As fans have discovered so far on Season 6 of Station 19, Jack did not leave for good. Yes, the ex-firefighter left Seattle for a period of time — but he returned without telling anyone except Eva Vasquez, Rigo's widow. The only reason anyone from Station 19 discovered Jack was still in town was because he required their rescue services when a tornado knocked down a tree that crashed into Eva's house.Article continues below advertisementSource: ABC Grey Damon and Kelly Thiebauld in 'Station 19' Embarrassingly (and painfully), Jack was trapped in the bed not only because the tree was pinning him down but also because he was handcuffed to the railing.Article continues below advertisement Now that the Station 19 firefighters know Jack is nearby, it looks like they're going to do all they can to support and encourage him during this dark time in his life. "You've fought hard for this career. It's time to save it. Come with me," Andy told him in a promo for the Oct. 20 episode. To that, a disheveled and defeated-looking Jack replied, "I can't."Article continues below advertisement In a different scene, Andy confronts Captain Beckett, telling him, "We were a family before you came into our station. One of our own is imploding, and we're just sitting back and watching him burn. If you can't lead us through this, Captain, I will."Article continues below advertisement It's unclear at this point how things will play out for Jack. However, with the help of his fellow Station 19 family members, he could very well make a return to fighting fires once again.
