And that’s just in the first few minutes of the k-drama. The slap is delivered by Hyeri in her role as Baek Dong-ju. She’s a funeral director and administers the slap at the request of the woman whose funeral it is. Dong-ju, it seems, can talk to the departed and they often have a lot to say. As a funeral director, it’s Dong-ju’s job to send her clients off in peace, but their final post-mortem requests often create chaos in her life. Sometimes she’s asked to punish those who hurt the departed and other times she must accomplish a final goal for those who no longer can. She would prefer to take the civil service exam and find a less demanding job, but is seems that running errands for the recently departed is her calling. Kim Jib-sa, played by Lee Jun-young, works for his uncle Vincent, played by Lee Gyu-han. At Vincent’s errand service, A Dime A Job, they run errands for a living. They will recycle household trash, walk dogs, carry heavy packages, tail a cheating husband and even break up with your girlfriend. Running such errands leads to more than one meet-cute in which Dong-ju and Jib-sa manage to irritate each other. One of those meet-cutes takes place at a funeral. It’s not that odd since it’s Dong-ju’s job to attend funerals, but the drama still gets credit for fantasy rom-com meet-cute originality. Can a woman who runs errands for the dead be happy with a man who runs errands for the living? It does seem like these two characters can’t avoid each other. Hyeri, a former member of the k-pop group Girl’s Day, recently appeared in in the fantasy rom com My Boyfriend Is A Gumiho and the historical drama Moonshine. Lee Jun-young appeared in Imitation and Let Me Be Your Knight. May I Help You? can be seen on Amazon Prime. MORE FOR YOU
