There was barely room to walk through the room at the opening event cocktail reception, where aficionados queued at open stands to see and try on brand new introductions. Collectible brands such as Greubel Forsey, MB&F and Voutilainen were on hand with watches that are already pre-ordered with considerable wait lists. Some brands introduced new models at the show, giving attendees the first glimpse of lines that are normally only introduced to the trade first. The show, taking Place at Gotham Hall in Manhattan, continues throughout today and tomorrow, and is open to all. It is punctuated by forums, where panelists will discuss the state of the industry and the rise of independent watchmakers. Lange & Söhne, Blancpain, Breguet, Arnold & Son, Bremont, Chopard, G-Shock, Massena Lab, MB&F, Montblanc, Parmigiani, Seiko, Voutilainen, Laurent Ferrier, and more. High-profile brand executives in attendance include Max Büsser of MB&F, Kari Voutilainen of Voutilainen, William Massena of Massena Lab, Xavier de Roquemaurel of Czapek, Giles English of Bremont, and Carlos Rossillo of Bell & Ross, among others. Seiko Many of the watches on display are made in only very limited quantities, and several of them are currently finalists in this year’s Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, the Oscars of watchmaking. Highlights include: Chopard’s new Alpine Eagle Flying Tourbillon, Laurent Ferrier’s all-gold Grand Sport Tourbillon (because this watch is so rare, the one on display is actually sold, and thus wrapped in plastic – but you can still appreciate it’s beauty and heft), Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF Microrotor GMT, Arnold & Son’s magnificent Luna Magna Platinum Meteorite, A. Lange & Söhne’s 1815 Rattrapante in platinum, Bovet’s exquisitely decorated Grand Recital 22 Tellurium Perpetual Calendar, and Greubel Forsey’s GMT Balancier Convexe. Not all watches on view are unattainable, and many are quite reasonably priced. Seiko, G-Shock and Norqain were there, with the latter introducing its under-$5,000 priced new WildOne collection – definitely worth a look! A. Lange & Söhne’s 1815 Rattrapante in platinum.A. Lange & Söhne “The industry has proven to be incredibly resilient over the last few years, defying expectations as interest in wristwatches continues to soar,” says Roger Ruegger, WatchTime editor-in-chief. “It’s clear that collectors are more eager than ever to discover and engage with new watch brands and the people behind them, which is precisely what WatchTime New York was established to do.” Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF Microrotor GMTParmigiani Fleurier Carol Besler Editorial StandardsPrintReprints & Permissions
