There are over forty different chests you can craft in Terraria. They are all functionally similar and their recipes will require two iron/lead bars and eight of whatever material they are made from. Wood can be found by chopping trees with an axe. Chopping down every tree nearby your spawn should give you plenty of wood to work with. Iron and lead can be used interchangeably depending on what has generated in your world. Dig underground to find yourself some iron or lead ore. To craft iron/lead bars you will need to make a furnace. Finally, to make a chest you will need to stand at a workbench to craft the chest itself. How to Make a Chest in Terraria Start by finding a natural cave or dig down until you find some iron/lead ore. This ore can be found very close to the surface so you will not have to go too far down to find it. My world generated lead which is a blackish gray. Iron is a similar shade of gray, just much lighter. Every iron/lead bar will require three pieces of ore each. Grab at least six-iron/lead ore. For your furnace, you will need twenty stones as well. Gather some stone while you are mining for the ore. Stand next to a workbench and craft a furnace. A furnace will cost twenty stones, three torches, and four wood to make. Place your furnace and stand next to it to smelt your ore into bars. With your two iron/lead bars and eight wood you can now craft a chest! Simply stand next to your workbench and look for the chest icon. That’s it! You can place chests close to your crafting stations to utilize anything in your chest for your crafting. Chests require 2x2 tiles to place and you can place them on wooden platforms for easy access. A chest will hold forty different blocks or items. Opening a chest will show you a bunch of different chest commands at the right of the chest inventory. “Loot All” will attempt to move every item in that chest to your inventory. “Deposit All” will attempt to move every item in your inventory to that chest (excluding your hotbar). “Quick Stack” will move any item in your inventory to an already existing stack of that item in your chest. For weapons and items that do not stack, quick stack will also move those items into the chest if there is a slot available. “Restock” will do the opposite of quick stack. It will move items from your chest into your inventory if you are holding any items that are in the chest. “Sort Items” will sort the chest by the block id. “Rename” will allow you to rename your chest. Renaming your chest will also show you the name of the chest when you hover over it with your cursor. The dead man’s chest is a golden chest that can be randomly generated during world spawn. It seems a little out of place as there is not any other structure generated around it. Opening this chest carelessly will trigger a dozen different traps from boulders, to dynamite, to lava. They are incredibly dangerous and can kill you even at full health. Dig below the chest to unearth the dynamite and above it to disarm the boulders. You can also take wire cutters into the area and you will be able to see all the traps the wires are connected to. With the wire cutters you can cut all the wires linked to the traps to open the chest safely. Q How do you organize chests in Terraria Chest has their own organize button but it organizes by block id not necessarily what makes sense. I recommend having dozens of different chests. Rename the chests by what you want them to hold, and place each item you want the chests to hold in a grid that makes sense to you.
