The Los Angeles Daily News recently wrote about Providence St. Joseph's announcement that Cedars-Sinai is now a co-owner of Providence Tarzana Medical Center. The joint venture will expand primary and specialty care services on the Tarzana campus as well as grow the heart, cancer and women's services programs. Patients will begin to see those effects next year, the article said. The Los Angeles Daily News story explained that the agreement calls for Providence to retain its Catholic identity under Providence's majority ownership as Cedars-Sinai invests in redevelopment of the campus. Cedars-Sinai President and CEO Thomas M. Priselac said the new venture would make Cedars-Sinai care more accessible for San Fernando Valley patients. "Our joint vision is driven by a dedication to provide residents of the San Fernando Valley with convenient access to an expert community of physicians who deliver the highest quality clinical care," he said. The new venture is Cedars-Sinai's first entry into a San Fernando Valley hospital, although there are a number of Cedars-Sinai outpatient locations throughout the region. Both the 249-bed Providence Tarzana medical center and 886-bed Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles were ranked within the nation's top 50 hospitals by Healthgrades in 2018. Chief Executive Officer of Providence Tarzana Dale Surowitz told the Los Angeles Daily News that the deal has been in the works for 18 months. "You have two faith-based organizations and even though they're different, they share a common vision and mission," Surowitz said, adding that the hospital intends to maintain its Catholic roots but will "definitely infuse more of Cedars' traditions." "We felt that this was the best way to ensure we meet the needs of the community now and into the future." Click here to read the complete article in the Los Angeles Daily News.
