With flu season underway, Cedars-Sinai offered free flu immunizations to adults and children at the annual Del Rey Day community fair in Glen Alla Park. "I'm a firm believer in the flu shot," said attendee Arshia Sajedi after getting her immunization. "It's a great prevention measure, and the benefits outweigh any mild pain you might experience." In addition to flu shots, Cedars-Sinai nurses and healthcare professionals offered an array of free health screenings and services for adults and children. They provided blood pressure screenings, nutrition and dental education, a drunk and distracted driving simulation and "Stop the Bleed" lessons for controlling bleeding after a trauma. Cedars-Sinai Blood Donor Services hosted a community blood drive from a mobile unit parked along Glencoe Avenue. Next door, a COACH for Kids mobile medical clinic offered children's health services in a specialized van that normally brings free healthcare and social services to low-income and medically underserved children and their families in Los Angeles County. "This is such a wonderful opportunity to bring these clinical services and health education to this part of our community," said Michele Rigsby Pauley, RN, MSN, interim associate director of Cedars-Sinai Community Health and Education. "We were able to tailor our educational programming to meet the needs of this population with topics like electric scooter safety."
