Cedars-Sinai is passionate about our commitment to advancing scientific knowledge, instilling compassion and respect, and providing every possible tool and opportunity for medical students to receive a well-rounded medical education. Medical students play an integral role in the Department of Surgery as they work alongside our residents, fellows and attending physicians. Surgery Education Program The Department of Surgery's Medical Student Education Program offers medical students a wide variety of opportunities to learn and grow. Our teaching faculty are dedicated to enhancing student education at all levels: Year 3 Clerkship The third-year surgery clerkship at Cedars-Sinai is among the required surgery clerkships offered to students enrolled in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (course number SU019). This clerkship attempts to expose third-year medical students to the important concepts, diseases and practices of general surgery. UCLA offers and assigns these 3-week rotations in general surgery: Acute care surgery Advanced general surgery Vascular surgery Cedars-Sinai offers and assigns these rotations for students enrolled in the continuity program in general surgery and surgical subspecialties (course number SU012), and obstetrics-gynecology: General surgery (3 weeks) Acute care surgery Surgical oncology Thoracic surgery Surgical subspecialty (2 weeks) Anesthesiology Hepatobiliary and transplant surgery Minimally invasive surgery Ophthalmology Orthopedic surgery Otolaryngology, head and neck surgery Plastic and reconstructive surgery Urology Year 4 Clerkship We offer fourth year clerkships (Sub Internships) at Cedars-Sinai through the VSAS Application Service.
