Ray Lund, PhD, a pioneer in the field, started using cell-based therapy for retinal degeneration over two decade ago; our current program expands our research to study optic nerve neuropathy and Alzheimer’s disease as well. We have been using stem cell therapy to slow down the progression of retinal degeneration and limit the development of the secondary vascular pathology. Our preclinical studies have led to three clinical trials using stem cells to treat macular degeneration. The Wang Laboratory is affiliated with the Regenerative Medicine Institute and Department of Biomedical Sciences.
