You're probably also thinking about your hopes and goals for 2019, and maybe setting resolutions for the new year. What will you change? What goal do you hope to achieve? How will you make improvements in your life? Read: 5 Mental Health Resolutions for the New Year Making New Year's resolutions is a popular tradition here at Cedars-Sinai too. We asked some of our staff members to share their resolutions for the coming year. Resolutions and wishes Dr. Michael Nurok, Medical Director, Cardiac Surgery ICU I've been thinking a lot about being more present and spending less time on my phone and devices. Sandie Sternberg, Coordinator, Child Life Services I don't really make resolutions, but my dad instilled in me that the only resolution one should make is to be their best and do their best each and every day. Oh, and give back to the community. So that's what I do, and that's what I've instilled in my son as well. Dr. Carol Lin, Orthopaedist I don't do much in the way of resolutions. It's more of an ongoing effort for me. This year I'd like to think about being more patient and exploring the city more. Dr. Robert Figlin, Director, Division of Hematology/Oncology My wish for the new year is health and happiness for my family and new and improved opportunities for my patients. I also want to show continued kindness and generosity to those who are less fortunate. Jason Weiner, Senior Rabbi and Director of Spiritual Care My new year's resolution is to try to do a better job of following up with people who share their problems with me to check in and see how they are doing instead of waiting for them to come back to me or assuming everything is fine. Hope and Health Dr. Moise Danielpour, Pediatric Neurosurgeon Many of the children I care for carry labels that can limit them from reaching their true potential. There is no such thing as normal. Normal is just a word to limit and exclude diversity. The names we call other people or names we are called are only labels and do not define who we are. Only our words and actions can define us. I will do my best this year and all coming years to help these children reach their full physical, emotional, and intellectual potential by providing the most integrated, sensitive, and appropriate care possible, while advancing the science that will lead to better cures and a brighter future. Dr. Robert Klapper, Orthopaedic Surgeon I want to get more patients into the pool and NOT into surgery. An exercise routine that includes the pool is great and low-impact on the bones. Dr. Reva Basho, Medical Oncologist Next year I want to spend more time being in the moment by putting the phone down and focusing on who and what is around me. I also want to get outside more and spend more time reading for fun! Dr. Dominick Megna, Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon I plan to rekindle a couple simple hobbies that have been pushed aside in the past few years, primarily fitness and cooking. I also plan to invest more time with the people I care most about and reconnect with friends I've lost touch with because of my career and medical training. 2019 will be a busy year, and I am looking forward to it on both a personal and professional level. Laurie Paletz, Manager, Stroke Program Typically, I look at the new year by reflecting back on the past year—favorite moments, wonderful memories, and areas for opportunity. Moving forward I am working on focusing on gratitude. It is important to not take anything for granted and take the time to appreciate all of the goodness in life.
