Protect the base of skis and snowboards We recommend protecting your ski and snowboard bases at the end of the season to protect the sliding properties they have. Leaving a layer of wax allows to nourish the base of your skis and snowboard before storing them.
Did you know?
Skiing purists have their ski and snowboard bases smoothed, scratches removed and elements cleaned, at the end of the season. A layer of wax is then applied without scrubbing (providing a base protective layer) and the equipment is stored in a mild and dry area, away from light.
Tip: If you left a protective wax layer at the end of the season, do not forget to scrape the bases before using for the first time for the best slide possible.
Look after bindings For ski bindings: pull up and loosen up the bindings to keep its 'spring'. Pull up: pull up the base when putting on the binding. Loosen up: using a flat-head screwdriver, loosen up the "hardness" of bindings in order to apply as little pressure as possible on the spring. Simply turn the screw on both the front and back part of the binding. The tip is to note down your adjustments in order to have them identically set by the beginning of the next season.
For snowboard bindings: fold up the spoiler and fasten the buckles over. This holds the shape of straps and prevents the spoiler being damaged during storage. Additionally, the bindings will take up less space with the spoiler lowered.
Store your equipment in a dry place When storing your skis or snowboard, make sure not to put them flat on gravels or vertically on a plastered wall. Avoid also storing your skis on your balcony, patio and let alone in direct sunlight as it may dry the wax on the base and the surface of your skis may crack.
Store your equipment in a dry place, to avoid the appearance of any rust.
Therefore, try to avoid the garden shed. If you can, store in an indoor room of the house, it might be your garage or basement if they are not humid.
Ideally, we recommend storing your equipment vertically within a protective cover (If you do not have any fasteners, it is best not to hook your skis together but to hang them one next to the other).
You now know all the tricks for correctly sorting and then storing your ski or snowboard equipment! You just need to wait for the next season before going back to sliding.
