This eagerness to win turns into a passion over the years and turn ordinary kids into Kohlis and Ronaldos of today. Irrespective of the sport, it is crucial that every one of us indulges in at least one if not more to stay fit and healthy. ‍

The Benefits Of Cricket

When it comes to sports in India, no sport can even come close to mass appeal enjoyed by cricket. It is played in every nook and corner of the country from desert to snow-clad mountains. The introduction of IPL has further increased the popularity of cricket, resulting in even more next-door shorter format tournaments being player by non-professionals and rookies. To remain fit, cricket is as good a sport as any due to the immense health benefits it provides. Playing cricket is beneficial since it requires an overall physical movement. The sport involves a lot of cardio in the form of bowling, sprinting, and catching. It improves hand and eye coordination, hand and leg movements, and sharpens the reflexes. During a cricket match, players have to commit to a lot of running across the field which increases physical fitness. Exercises such as squats, deadlifts, and overhead press help in strengthening the core muscles of the body such as the hamstrings, glutes, and hips. ‍

Routine Exercises With Cricket

Bowlers are the backbone of any cricket team, apart from bowling they need to maintain a high level of fitness to ensure accuracy and prevent injuries. Their fitness regime consists of exercises such as bench press, overhand grips which strengthen the upper body, and arms & back exercises which improves flexibility. One of the most important exercises for bowlers is the opposite arm leg raise or popularly known as ‘alternating superman’ where one has to raise an arm and alternate leg together and repeat. Superman builds ab strength and defines the arm and leg work coordination which is crucial while bowling. On the other hand, batting requires immense mental and physical stamina in order to sustain continuous long hours of batting. The fitness regimen followed by batsmen is intense in nature, they are expected to workout 45 days a week with an emphasis on strength and muscle training. The workout is usually a combination of cardio and weight training. If the team is on tour, the group workout raises the competitiveness within the team to outperform another team member. Cricket teams together take up cardiovascular exercises such as jogging, swimming, etc. which builds momentum and healthy competition amongst the players. Playing cricket can invoke passion for the game due to its intense nature and give a boost to the synergy created while playing with a team, thus creating a sense of team spirit.
