15 tips to stay active at home physically and mentally

So to maintain overall good health as well as a positive atmosphere within the house, it is very important for people to know how to keep fit and healthy at home. Here’s sharing with you a few tips to be active at home all day:

Waking up early: Believe it or not, but when people say ‘ Early to bed early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’, it is indeed true. Starting your day early whilst watching the sunrise, can not only add some discipline in your routine but also keep you energized throughout the day.

Yoga: Performing yoga early morning daily is one of the best ancient exercises that still holds utmost importance even today if you want to abstain from all the fancy gym equipment and instead pursue natural exercise. It keeps you active and energised, improves your flexibility and concentration and is the best routine that tells you how to keep fit and healthy at home. Decathlon provides comfortable and firm grip yoga mats that can be bought online to do hassle free yoga at home.
‍Standing up while doing most jobs: As much as we love the chair, sitting on the couch or lying on the bed, standing up while watching TV or cutting vegetables in the kitchen, shaving, washing your face, etc can actually help you burn calories, increase blood circulation and keep you more active. Standing position has been found to burn more calories than sitting position and is also great for your back and overall posture.

Move throughout the day: Many people tend to get lazy and employ either maids or other house members to complete even basic tasks like opening the door when the bell rings, answering the landline at home or switching on or off of home electrical appliances. Instead, keeping yourself agile and moving throughout the day helps you stay active at home as staying on your toes always helps to keep your mind alert.

Cleaning your house: Now, even if we live in a society where people fondly preach ‘No job is big or small’, but even then when it comes to keeping your own house clean, people prefer employing housemaids to get that job done, believing it to be a status symbol. Barring those households where all members of the house are working professionals and literally no one is in the house all day, cleaning the house can actually serve as a good exercise that involves a variety of muscle activities and can burn up to 80-100 calories for every 30 minutes spent.

Fit in more walking: Track the number of steps while you walk through the house, set targets and goals to achieve a fixed number of steps daily. Walking is known to burn 100-120 calories per mile based on an individual's weight.

Cooking: Cooking is generally not considered as an exercise, but what if you know that cooking can actually burn up to 70 calories for every 30 minutes spent. In this way, you can always plan ahead, cook healthy, eat healthy and at the same time stay healthy.

Exercise during TV time: The best way to be active at home all day, is indulging in any light forms of exercise whenever you watch TV. Jumping jacks, push-ups or some fat-blasting moves while watching TV or especially during commercial breaks can help you adequately sweat out the extra calories, prevent you from being a couch potato and help you be more physically active. You can try using your exercise bike or home trainer in front of the tv.

Play mind enriching games: Crossword puzzles, sudokus, quizzes or even Rubik’s cube, darts are games that can help you keep your mind alert, active and improve your memory.

Meditation: Meditation helps keep your mind calm, improves your concentration and memory, relieves you of any physical or mental stress, thus improving your mental health. Meditation is an activity that is highly encouraged to maintain a good mental and emotional health. Sit on a yoga mat for your meditation sessions

Dance: One of the best ways to stay active while at home, is dance. It not only helps to keep you physically active but also is a good stress-buster that helps you stay mentally calm. Dance can be easily converted into aerobics or zumba that is known to burn the flab and help you stay lean.

Stretching Exercises: Stretching helps prevent any injury or strain on bone or muscle, increases range of motion and flexibility. Stretching exercises like plank, pilates, light cardio workouts, weightlifting or compact abs exercises can easily be accomplished at home without having to venture out. Decathlon provides an exclusive range of specialized equipment like pilates ball, flab toning dumbbells, compact abs exerciser and stepper which can be easily ordered online.
Indulge in self-grooming or personal care: Time spent on personal care be it some online shopping or even some face and skin routine helps you maintain good skin, improves your personality and builds self- confidence.

Gardening: Maintaining a small garden in your house balcony can not only make your house look good, contribute to the earth’s green cover and help provide clean, pure and fresh air in the house all day but will also serve as a good active routine.

Proper sleep: Proper time to time sleep and adequate amounts of sleep is very important to maintain a good body clock and remain active throughout the day. So make sure you have your meals in time and get good sound sleep at night.
Thus, understand the essence of physical or mental activity and implement the above tips in your routine to remain fit and active without even having to move out of the house.
