Dr. Robert Rea is a board-certified Cardiac Electrophysiologist. He attended undergraduate at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN and medical school at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, followed by two years spent with the U.S. Public Health Service on the Zuni Indian Reservation in New Mexico, and then completed a fellowship in General Cardiology at Penn State University Hershey Medical Center, and then Electrophysiology and Cardiovascular Physiology fellowships at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in 1994, he was faculty at the University of Iowa in the Cardiology/Cardiac Electrophysiology section. His research training was in autonomic physiology and in the two years of that fellowship he spent several months in Gothenburg, Sweden working with Dr. Gunnar Wallin who pioneered the technique of sympathetic nerve recordings in humans. His current interests include cardiac arrhythmias, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and explantation, and autonomic physiology. Conditions treated
