These mainly include conditions involving the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. With 13 specialty groups and more than 140 digestive disease specialists on staff, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic is one of the largest and most deeply experienced in the world. Mayo Clinic gastroenterology resources include the latest in endoscopic equipment and minimally invasive techniques. During endoscopic procedures, doctors insert tubes through the mouth, nose or rectum to examine and treat problems of the digestive tract, with minimized impact on surrounding tissues. Each year, Mayo Clinic staff members perform more than 98,000 minimally invasive endoscopic procedures. These include upper endoscopy (also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), colonoscopy, small bowel enteroscopy, and endoscopic ultrasonography. Pediatric gastroenterology

At Mayo Clinic's campus in Minnesota, children and adolescents with digestive disorders receive care through the Children's Center. Mayo Clinic pediatric gastroenterologists work in close collaboration with other pediatric specialists to provide comprehensive care for children. In addition, the Mayo Clinic Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center for Children is committed to a compassionate, integrated approach to managing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including growth and bone development as well as psychosocial issues unique to children with IBD. Clinical nutrition, with emphasis on malnutrition from gastrointestinal diseases. Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including enteral stents, biliary stents, banding of esophageal varices, small bowel enteroscopy, endoscopic treatment for gastrointestinal bleeding and endoscopic ultrasound. Radiofrequency treatment for Barrett's esophagus or early esophageal cancer, minimally invasive anti-reflux procedures and anti-reflux surgery for heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Evaluations for liver transplant and post-transplant care. State-of-the-art testing for GI motility disorders, including chronic constipation. Tests include radionuclide gastric and intestinal transit studies, 24-hour pH monitoring, esophageal, gastroduodenal and colonic motility, ambulatory motility recordings and provocative testing for noncardiac chest pain.
