Die Studie entwickelt Grundlinien eines systemtheoretischen Ansatzes, der es erlaubt, die Konstitutionsbedingungen, Typen und Verlaufsformen von Mensch-Tier-Verhältnissen in ihren mikro-, meso- und makrosozialen Bezügen zu erfassen. Historisch vergleichende Fallstudien zu den Tiermoralen zweier frühneuzeitlicher Milieus (höfische Gesellschaft, protestantisches Bürgertum) veranschaulichen die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten und wandlungstheoretischen Implikationenen des Mehrebenenansatzes.
