Die Leistungsfähigkeit der Vereinten Nationen und ihre strukturelle Reform sind immer wieder Gegenstand wissenschaftlicher Diskussionen. Im Vordergrund standen bisher vor allem Überlegungen zur Verbesserung des Systems der kollektiven Sicherheit und der Konfliktbeilegung. Entwicklungspolitische Aspekte wurden jedoch vernachlässigt. Michael Hampe untersucht anhand einer Input-Output-Relation einen der bedeutendsten Träger multilateraler Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, das United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
