Surgical Outcomes of Mitral Valve Repair

Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to learn more about early and late outcomes in patients after mitral valve repair.

An Open Label Follow-Up Study to Evaluate the Long Term Safety and Efficacy of L-CSA in Patients with a Diagnosis of CLAD-BOS after they have completed participation to BOSTON-1 and BOSTON-2 studies

Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to assess the long-term effectiveness and safety of L-CsA plus Standard of Care (SoC) in the treatment of BOS in single (SLT) and double lung transplant (DLT) recipients. Enrollment will be limited to patients who have completed 48 weeks participation in either the BT-L-CsA-301-SLT (BOSTON-1) or BT-L-CsA-302-DLT (BOSTON-2) trial. All patients in this clinical trial will receive L-CsA in addition to Standard of Care, regardless of randomization arm in prior trials.

PROACT Xa - A Trial to Determine if Participants With an On-X Aortic Valve Can be Maintained Safely on Apixaban

Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine if participants with an On-X Prosthetic Heart Valve / On-X aortic valve can be maintained safely and effectively on apixaban. Both the On-X aortic valve and apixaban have been approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but they have not been approved to be used together. Currently, warfarin is the only approved anticoagulation for patients with mechanical valves.

A Study to Evaluate Wellness Coaching for Caregivers of Thoracic Transplant Candidates

Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a health coaching intervention on the stress and burden of caregivers of patients awaiting heart or lung transplant. Hypotheses: Caregivers will have traits and behaviors pre-transplant that will predict caregiver readiness, quality of life, and transplant recipient outcomes. Specifically, thoracic pre-transplant caregivers report stress, symptoms of anxiety or depression, and perceive high caregiver burden. These factors may be amenable to pre-transplant intervention to improve overall patient and caregiver outcomes. Aims, purpose, or objectives: We will conduct a pilot trial to test whether caregivers of heart and lung transplant candidates who receive wellness coaching will experience improvement in caregiver-related distress. We will also explore the relationship between caregiving and factors such as uncertainty, resilience, stress level, and affect.

Prevalence of Transthyretin Cardiac Amyloidosis in Clinically Significant Aortic Stenosis

Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of TTR-CA in a community-based cohort of moderate and severe aortic stenosis patients using 99mTc-PYP single-photon positive emission computed tomography with computed tomography (SPECT/CT).

AtriCure CryoICE Lesions for Persistent and Long-standing Persistent Atrial Fibrillation Treatment

Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of AtriCure's CryoICE Ablation System in performing the Cox-Maze III Lesion set surgical procedure, in conjunction with LAA exclusion using ArtiCure's AtriClip device. The effectiveness of the device will be demonstrated by establishing that the device effectively eliminates persistent and long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation in a clinically significant proportion of treated patients.

A Study to Evaluate Aortic Dilatation in Patients with Conotruncal Abnormalities

Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to assess operative and postoperative outcomes after aortic valve surgery, evaluate for changes in ascending aorta diameter by comparing pre-operative CT imaging to measurements on follow-up imaging, and examine late outcomes and functional status during the follow-up period with specific focus on mortality, need for re-operation and incidence of aortic dissection.
