Fun Things to Do in LA This Week October 24-27

Close out the last week before Halloween with Diwali celebrations a Brazilian vinyl night a pumpkin craft class and more

By Danielle DorseyUpdated on 10/21/2022 at 4:09 PM Rock 2nd & PCH Millennial Media Group Rock 2nd & PCH Millennial Media Group Just like the night before Christmas, the air almost seems to crackle with anticipation as Halloween nears. You begin to encounter costumed Angelenos at seemingly innocuous places like the grocery store and bank, and you can basically guarantee that any cocktail you order up through November 1, will be a hue of orange, black, or blood-red. Spooky season is about to hit its crescendo. All of that to say, this week is a little slow as everyone gears up for the biggest party weekend of the year. But if you’re feeling extra extroverted, you can get out there with Diwali celebrations, a seafood happy hour, wine Wednesday, a Brazilian vinyl night, a pumpkin felting craft class, and more. And if you need more fun ideas, check out the best Halloween events and close out DineLA Restaurant Week with a bang.Thrillist TVHistory ofThe History of Tailgating

Celebrate Diwali

Monday, October 24
Various locations
The Hindu holiday of Diwali celebrates the triumph of good over evil and observations include decorating one’s home with lights and eating mithai, or sweets. LA’s got a host of Indian restaurants waiting to satiate that sweet tooth, from stalwarts in Artesia’s Little India to modern marvels like Pijja Palace and Badmaash. Book a reservation or order in an Indian feast.

Eat something epic and beat your high score

Ongoing through Monday, October 31
Button Mash (Echo Park)
Button Mash is a pandemic inspiration story if ever there was one. The barcade was almost a COVID casualty, but reopened earlier this year with Tacos 1986 helming the kitchen. They’re gearing up to debut a new chef and food program, but are having a hell of a good time with innovative pop-ups in the meantime, including notable friends like Evil Cooks, Pearl River Deli, Estrano, and more, with all of them cooking up epic, one-off dishes for their residencies. You never know who’s going to show up, but you can guarantee it’s going to be delicious.

Enjoy happy hour by the sea

Tuesday, October 25
Savida (Santa Monica)
Israeli-inflected seafood bar Savida just launched a Tuesday afternoon happy hour from 3–6 pm that gets you $3 oysters; $12 shrimp tacos, a Salmon Crostini, Octopus Potato Salad, and Crab Lettuce Cups; and a selection of sparkling, white, red, or rose wines by the glass for $11. Enjoy your pairings at a streetside patio table or in the cozy interior with a view of the chef’s kitchen.

Boogie down at a Brazilian vinyl night

Wednesday, October 26
Caipirinha Bar (Los Feliz)
This stylish lounge on Hillhurst has become a local favorite for delicious Southern Brazilian snacks like Pao de Queijo and Crispy Chicken Thigh Skewers, plus a cocktail list that’s stacked with several versions of the country’s popular caipirinha cocktail (hence the name). Every Wednesday is vinyl night, featuring Brazilian funk, jazz, tropicalia, disco, and more.

Sip wine and listen to live music on an al-fresco patio

Wednesday, October 26
Coral Tree Café (Brentwood)
Neighborhood staple Coral Tree Café is launching a weekly Wine Wednesday with half-off bottles, in addition to crudite plates, cheese boards, and other dinner and drink specials. Tuck into your selections while enjoying live music from artist Bronsen Vidas on the al-fresco patio.

Craft a needle-felted pumpkin or jack-o-lantern

Thursday, October 27
ROW DTLA (Suite 168)
There’s still time to carve—or in this case, thread your pumpkin before Halloween. Makers Mess is hosting this two-hour workshop on the basics of needle felting and all participants will leave with an adorable fuzzy pumpkin or jack-o-lantern that you can display in your home and as a bonus, it won’t rot by the end of the week. RSVP ahead of time online.
Cost: $75

Belt out the lyrics at a Journey cover show

Thursday, October 27
2nd and PCH (Santa Monica)
Come out for the final show in the Rock 2nd & PCH outdoor concert series, featuring DSB Band (guess what that acronym stands for) in what they claim will be the world’s greatest Journey tribute. If you’ve ever wanted to sing “Don’t Stop Believing” at the top of your lungs in chorus with a bunch of other fans, this is the event for you. It’s also a great opportunity to take advantage of some of the last balmy evenings of the fall season.
