BMW i4 Deliveries Start Way Ahead Of Schedule
Nov. 30, 2021 12:53 PM ET by Karl Furlong Electric Vehicles / Comments And the iX SUV isn't far behind. Sharing much of its bold styling with the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, the BMW i4 adds a powerful fully electric powertrain to the mix. It's an EV that buyers seem to love, and Americans who haven't already ordered a new i4 are in for a long wait if they want to get their hands on one. They'll also be envious of customers in Germany because the first examples of the new BMW i4 have reached buyers there at BMW Welt. In Germany, one out of every four new BMWs sold there is an EV or a plug-in hybrid, so the i4 is a significant model in that country. BMW BMW BMW "It is a very special moment for us when we hand over brand new models to customers for the first time," said Bernhard Kuhnt, Senior Vice President, BMW Group Market Germany. "The BMW i4 shows in an emotional way how well fully-electric mobility and sporty driving dynamics fit together." Customers were overjoyed to be invited to the special event and, of course, to drive off in the new i4. One of those customers is Stefan Ballin, owner of an electrical contracting company, who was impressed by the car's "symbiosis of range, elegant design and unmistakable BMW sportiness." BMW BMW Compared with last year, the BMW Group has almost doubled its sales of electrified models in Germany. This includes products from Mini like the Cooper SE. With the i4 now here and fully-electric versions of models like the 5 Series and 7 Series on the way, BMW is well on its way to having EVs make up half of its global sales in 2030. In the US, the 2022 BMW i4 begins at $55,400 for the rear-wheel-drive eDrive40 which takes 5.5 seconds to reach 60 mph. The all-wheel-drive M50 needs just 3.7 seconds for the benchmark sprint and starts at $65,900. Deliveries for the i4 in the US will begin next year. BMW BMW BMW Join The Discussion

BMW i4 Karl Furlong Senior Editor Sweaty-palmed hot laps are fun, but Karl is a gearhead cut from a different cloth - or is that finely stitched Nappa leather? An E23 BMW 7 Series was the first car he fell madly in love with three decades ago, and this affection for Autobahn-conquering luxury sedans has persisted. Following studies in copywriting and journalism, along with stints in TV scriptwriting and marketing that had far too little to do with cars, Karl kept the fire burning by writing for automotive websites on the side, including a Florida-based auto repair shop and another for Porsche enthusiasts. It all came together when he joined CarBuzz in 2019. He has penned some of the latest news, reviews, and features ever since.
