The Porsche Taycan Has A Serious Problem

Dec. 02, 2021 4:19 PM ET by Martin Bigg Electric Vehicles / 2 Comments Thankfully, only a small number of Taycans are affected. The Porsche Taycan ushered in a new electric era for the German brand and the lineup recently expanded with the new Taycan GTS and GTS Sport Turismo. But like many new models, the Taycan has suffered a few teething issues. Back in October, over 11,827 Taycans in the US were recalled because the hazard lights would switch on even in non-emergency situations. Before then, around 43,000 Taycans were recalled to fix a software issue that caused the electric sports sedan to lose power. Now, another problem with the Taycan has been discovered that could have serious consequences. Porsche Porsche Porsche According to a recall notice issued by the NHTSA, the front and rear upper control arm screw connections on the rear axle may not have been tightened correctly on a small number of Taycans. The NHTSA says a loose screw connection "might cause movement of respective suspension component beyond its intended position." If the screw becomes loose, it could affect the car's stability and increase the risk of a crash. Thankfully, the recall only affects 35 Taycans built between June 17, 2020, and November 16, 2020. Porsche first became aware that certain screw connections on the upper control arms on the rear axle may not have been installed correctly in certain Taycans. Porsche Porsche The German automaker then launched an internal investigation studying the potential effects of this issue and used production records to identify potentially affected vehicles. Porsche acted swiftly to issue a recall. To resolve this issue, the screw connections in affected Taycans will be replaced with a new nut and bolt and tightened to the original specification. Surrounding components will also be checked for damage and will be replaced if required. Dealers will be notified of the recall on or before December 1, 2021, while owners of affected Taycans will be notified by mail on or before January 18, 2022. Porsche Porsche
