Spied Audi Q6 e-tron Ready To Battle The BMW iX

Dec. 03, 2021 10:06 AM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 1 Comment Audi's new electric SUV has been caught tackling the snow. Last month, the Audi Q5 e-tron debuted at the Auto Guangzhou in China. Essentially Audi's version of the three-row Volkswagen ID.6, the Q5 e-tron will only be sold in China. The upcoming Q6 e-tron, on the other hand, will be a global model and slot above the Q4 e-tron. As development of the electric mid-size SUV continues, our spies have spotted a prototype Q6 e-tron being put through its paces in Sweden trekking through snow. Whereas the Q4 e-tron is based on Volkswagen Group's MEB platform, the Q6 e-tron will be the first Audi underpinned by the Premium Platform Electric architecture co-developed with Porsche, meaning it will share the same platform as the new electric Porsche Macan. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Looking like a larger version of the Q4 e-tron with a sloping roofline, a subtle roof spoiler, and a longer wheelbase, the prototype is wrapped up warm in full camouflage. Like the prototype we spied a couple of months ago, the Q6 e-tron prototype has a production body and headlights but the taillights are still provisional. A central LED light bar is also fitted to the front providing extra visibility for winter testing. We don't get a look inside, but the longer wheelbase will provide extra rear legroom for passengers. The Q6 e-tron looks around the same size as the current Q5, but the interior space will be comparable to the larger Q7 thanks to the positioning of the battery. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Powertrain details are being kept under wraps, but we know the PPE platform supports single and dual motor configurations, 350-kW fast charging, and a range of over 300 miles. With two electric motors, the Audi A6 e-tron concept produced a combined 469 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque and offered a range of over 434 miles, so we expect the final Q6 e-tronproduction model will have similar specifications. A more powerful RS variant is also expected to launch with around 600 horsepower and 613 lb-ft on tap. The Audi Q6 e-tron is expected to arrive in 2022 and will be followed by a Sportback version in 2023. When it goes on sale, the Audi Q6 e-tron will take on the likes of the Mercedes EQE, BMW iX and Tesla Model X. It will be one of 20 all-electric models in Audi's model lineup by 2025 CarBuzz CarBuzz
