Dec. 03, 2021 1:42 PM ET by Jay Traugott Scoop / 10 Comments But not all is lost. If you're looking for what's essentially a luxury go-kart with German pedigree and the famed AMG badge for a starting price of just under $46,000, the Mercedes-AMG A35 is what you want. Unfortunately, you'll need to act fast. CarBuzz has confirmed with Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman Ashley Gillam that the 302 horsepower four-door sedan is not returning for the upcoming model year. "The A35 will not be offered in the US market for MY22." The regular, non-AMG A-Class is sticking around, at least for 2022. The US market A-Class lineup is four-door only, unlike in Europe where it's available as a hatchback. No specific reasons were given as to why the AMG A35's time is up, but we suspect slow sales and other AMG vehicles have something to do with it. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Those models are the CLA 45, GLA 35, and GLB 35, all of which share the same MFA2 platform. There is a $10k price difference between the A35 and CLA 45, and both come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot. However, the CLA 45 is more powerful with 382 horsepower on tap while the A35 has 302 hp. And, you can get the A35's powertrain in CLA form too. The A35's packaging is also relatively similar to the CLA 35's, but the latter's sleek styling makes it more exciting to many. The GLA 35 and GLB 45 are crossovers and we're all quite aware by now of America's affection for SUVs. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz The A35 just had a hard time finding a sufficient number of buyers in a crowded lineup. It's also possible it's taking a model year off due to semiconductor chip-related supply problems. Mercedes didn't respond to our further inquiry in time for publication of this article. We'll update this space if we receive additional information. Even fully loaded, the 2021 AMG A35 is something of a bargain, coming in at just under $53,000. That'll get you the $1,295 multimedia package, $800 premium package, and extra bits like a Nappa leather-wrapped performance steering wheel ($400), 19-inch AMG twin 5-spoke wheels ($500), and AMG Ride Control with a sport suspension ($900).
