Official Kia EV6 EPA Ratings Are Very Impressive

Dec. 06, 2021 9:20 AM ET by Jay Traugott Electric Vehicles / 8 Comments Range anxiety? What's that? The Tesla record-smashing Kia EV6 could be one of the most interesting and exciting new vehicles for the 2022 model year. Along with its corporate cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the EV6 is an all-electric vehicle with plenty of style inside and out that might just make a serious dent in Tesla Model 3 and Model Y sales. Might. And now the EPA has released official efficiency ratings for the EV6 and they're solid. The base model Standard Range RWD, equipped with the 58 kWh battery and a single motor can go up to 232 miles on a single charge. Moving up to the Long Range RWD, now with a more powerful 77.4 kWh battery, will get you up to 310 miles. Kia Kia Kia Lastly, there's the Long Range AWD, which also has a 77.4 kWh battery. But, it also has dual electric motors, hence the AWD. The EPA has given this trim a 274-mile range. The latter's supercar-like performance capabilities are probably worth the slightly less range compared to the Long Range RWD. It's also worth remembering that it was the Long Range AWD First Edition that sold out in only a matter of hours online. Only 1,500 examples were offered and buyers received a free Apple watch. First Edition customer deliveries are scheduled to begin sometime in early 2022. Kia Kia Kia There have been some rumors that the EV6, primarily the Long Range AWD, will replace the Stinger fastback sedan as the brand's halo model. That might happen one day but not yet. Kia confirmed to CarBuzz at last month's LA Auto Show there are currently no plans to end Stinger production. Kia also told us it's not ruling out even more EV6 GT performance upgrades. It can already go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, so it's certainly possible that figure, along with the quarter-mile time, can be reduced. Kia's electrification era is only getting started.
