The New 2022 Hyundai Tucson XRT Is An SUV With Attitude
Dec. 07, 2021 7:12 AM ET by Sebastian Cenizo Off-Road / 7 Comments Some black cladding goes a long way to achieving a rugged look. Hyundai launched the all-new Tucson in the US roughly a year ago following an extensive teaser campaign, and we like it a lot. Even in base form, this SUV looks spectacular, and Hyundai has been adding to the offering with new variants like an N Line model and a plug-in hybrid, the latter of which is remarkably efficient. Unsurprisingly, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has been racking up awards, but that doesn't mean that the offering is complete. The Korean automaker still wants more diversity in the lineup, and a new trim called the XRT has just been added with more rugged styling. Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai To help set it apart, the new trim boasts black 19-inch XRT-exclusive wheels and "special dark exterior elements." These are seen on the black monotone mirror covers, the dark side window surrounds, and the black plastic wheel arch cladding. You also get approach lighting, side steps, roof rack cross rails, and more rugged fascias for each end of the SUV. Inside, black cloth upholstery and a black headliner are added to this new model that is based on the existing SEL trim with the Convenience package (excluding the sunroof). The trim is available on non-hybrid models with or without AWD. FWD models will set you back $32,625 while opting for AWD will cost you $34,125 including a $1,225 destination charge. Hyundai Hyundai As standard, the Hyundai Tucson comes with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter motor borrowed from the Sonata sedan. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, this produces 187 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Alternatively, you can get a hybrid that produces a respectable 226 hp or a plug-in variant that has a total of 261 horses. These hybrid models come with a six-speed automatic, but if you want the XRT trim, you'll be stuck with the base motor. Still, for those who want just a little more of a rugged look, the XRT is good value with its saving of over $2,000 compared to the top-spec Limited variant. Hyundai Hyundai Join The Discussion
