There' s Now Only One Jeep Wrangler Powertrain In Europe

Dec. 07, 2021 6:59 PM ET by Jay Traugott Off-Road / 6 Comments America, we're next (probably). We knew this day was coming and now it's official. Jeep has confirmed that the Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid will be the only Wrangler offered in Europe from this point onward. That is, of course, until the all-electric Wrangler arrives. That's slated to happen in 2023 but we could see both variants being sold side-by-side for a few model years. We first caught wind of Jeep of Europe's PHEV-only Wrangler decision last July when it wasrevealed the two-door body style has been discontinued too. Although Stellantis didn't outright state it, sales of the two-door Wrangler have reportedly been shrinking overseas. It makes sense to simplify the Wrangler for this specific market, though there is one exception. The UK will still have a gas-powered, turbo-four Wrangler available, though it too will be four-door only. Jeep Jeep Jeep Stellantis knows it must reduce its overall fleet C02 emissions and the 4xe is really the only way to keep the Wrangler alive in Europe. Buyers in Italy, Spain, Belgium, and Serbia can now all place their orders. More countries will open their order books later this month. The Wrangler 4xe's powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and a pair of electric motors for a combined output of 375 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission directs that power to all four wheels. Eco-conscious owners will appreciate the estimated 31 miles of all-electric range available. Other standard features include automatic high beams, forward collision warning with brake assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a rearview camera. There are also two new exterior paint colors: Silver Zynith Metallic Clear Coat and High Velocity Metallic Clear Coat. As part of the rotating colors program, Tuscadera and Gobi are also available, the former beginning in January and the latter starting next summer. Official pricing wasn't announced but it's not expected to deviate much from last year, which began at a hefty €70,700 in France. Other countries should have very similar amounts. Here in the US, just to compare, the 2021 4xe started at $51,525. 2021 model year examples quickly sold out last summer. Jeep Jeep Jeep
