World' s Rustiest Aston Martin Lagonda Will Be Reborn As Luxury EV

Back when Andy Palmer was at the helm, Aston Martin was planning to launch a new luxury Lagonda sub-brand rivaling Rolls-Royce and Bentley, previewed back in 2018 with the Lagonda Vision electric sedan. One year later, Aston Martin unveiled the Lagonda All-Terrain Concept SUV that was supposed to spawn a production model in 2022. These plans have been scrapped since then. Instead, Aston Martin will launch luxury Lagonda versions of existing models, similar to Maybach versions of Mercedes cars like the Maybach S-Class. Aston Martin's first electric sports car won't arrive until 2025. furiousdriving/YouTube furiousdriving/YouTube While the Lagonda Vision will no longer be put into production, YouTube channel furiousdriving is filling the void by converting an original Aston Martin Lagonda into an electric sedan. Built between 1974 and 1990, the original Lagonda luxury sedan was divisive, to say the least. Arguably the most notorious version was the series 2 1976 model with its futuristic, wedge-shaped design and advanced technologies. It even had a digital gauge cluster that used CRT screens, but it was famously unreliable. Less than 700 Lagondas are on the road today. Fortunately, the donor Lagonda being used for the EV conversion project is one of the rustiest examples you're likely to find. It's in such a bad state that sections of the floor pan have rusted away. furiousdriving/YouTube furiousdriving/YouTube Lion and Fox will lovingly restore the Lagonda for the conversion, but there's clearly a lot of work to do. In the video, we get to see the interior get stripped out to inspect that nasty floor pan. The chassis will be strengthened and the Lagonda's hulking V8 engine will be removed to make room for the electric powertrain. Fox and Lion are considering different options for the battery pack and electric motor, but if they need some inspiration, Lunaz recently modernized a classic Aston Martin DB6, converting the British sports car into an EV with a 255-mile range.
