Meet The Bonkers BMW M3 With 1 000 HP And A Standard Gearbox

Dec. 13, 2021 1:42 PM ET by Gerhard Horn Video / 2 Comments Does America have anything faster? Meet the fastest M3 in the UK and possibly the whole of Europe. The company that built it, Wrigley Performance, specializes in F80 M3s, and this one is bonkers. We also like that it doesn't shout about its latent performance, making it the ultimate sleeper car. It would be interesting to see how it compares to the less subtle Lightweight Performance M3. The car was built "top to bottom." It comes with a fully rebuilt motor, clutches, differential, and hybrid turbos, which are a bigger version of the stock units. These turbos are more reliable and robust while making more power, especially at the top end. The horsepower depends on the fuel. It makes 820 hp on pump fuel and just over 1,000 hp on ethanol. The performance figures are impressive. It runs the quarter-mile in 10.1 seconds, which is spectacular for a rear-wheel-drive car with 1,000 hp. That being said, the quarter-mile is not where it shines. Over the half-mile, it accelerates to 185 mph. This particular M3 has a full Ohlins suspension with a damper rate tuned by Wrigley Performance to put that power down daily. The brakes are also Wrigley's own, which is a must on a car that can gather speed at such a rapid pace. The car is running a few standard parts, however. It has standard airboxes and air filters. While the clutches are upgraded, the gearbox is entirely stock, as is the propshaft. It seems like BMW over-engineered these parts, given that they can cope with double the standard horsepower. Wrigley Performance recently moved into a new space with a track and half-mile runway on the premises. You can go there, feel the performance and then decide whether your F80 M3 needs 1,000 hp. As you can see from the quick drive on the streets, this car is seriously sketchy. It doesn't appear to acknowledge the existence of a straight line, preferring to get its rear end out at every opportunity. BMW was definitely on to something when it went AWD with the current-generation M3. LivingLifeFast/YouTube LivingLifeFast/YouTube LivingLifeFast/YouTube
