Stylish Subaru Impreza Special Edition Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Next year marks the 30th anniversary of the Subaru Impreza, but the Japanese automaker is starting the celebrations early. In Japan, Subaru is launching a new special-edition model that honors 30 years of the car that spawned one of the most legendary rally cars of all time. Dubbed the 1.6iS EyeSight Accent Black and available in sedan and hatchback body styles, the special-edition Impreza stands out from the regular version thanks to its dark metallic 17-inch aluminum wheels, black-painted roof spoiler, black door mirrors, and darker grille, giving the Impreza a sportier appearance. Subaru Subaru Subaru Subaru Inside, the 30th-anniversary Impreza features gray fabric seats with silver stitching. As standard equipment, the 1.6iS EyeSight Accent Black comes with the Subaru's EyeSight Safety Plus assist package, which includes a front and side view monitor for enhanced visibility and rear vehicle detection. As standard, Japan's entry-level Impreza also now comes with heated fabric seats in the front and a new Lagoon Blue exterior color is available for the Advance trim. Under the hood, Japan's special-edition Impreza is powered by a 1.6-liter engine generating 113 horsepower and 109 lb-ft of torque, which can be sent to either the front or all four wheels through a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. Subaru Subaru Subaru Subaru America's Subaru Impreza, on the other hand, is only available with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque and can be equipped with a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic. In Japan, the Subaru 1.6iS EyeSight Accent Black will go on sale for 1,990,000 yen ($17,430) with FWD and 2,190,000 yen ($19,182) with AWD. In the US, the base 2022 Subaru Impreza starts at $19,295. For now, the special-edition Impreza is only available in Japan. While the regular Impreza is a reliable, if rather sedate family car, Subaru also sells the sporty WRX variant. Redesigned for the 2022 model year, the new WRX utilizes a more powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer four replacing the old 2.0-liter unit good for 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
