All-American 2022 Honda Passport Coming To Dealers Very Soon

Dec. 21, 2021 5:49 PM ET by Jay Traugott Off-Road / 10 Comments Production has commenced. The latest generation Honda Passport is a big deal for the automaker not only in terms of volume. It's also somewhat symbolic. Why? This midsize SUV crossover was designed and is now being built right here in the US of A. This is important as the Passport is aimed squarely at American consumer tastes, especially in the adventure department, hence the new TrailSport trim. Earlier this month, the automaker confirmed official 2022 model year Passport pricing, and today comes a new announcement. Both the 2022 Passport and Passport TrailSport have officially entered series production at Honda's Alabama Auto Plant, located in Lincoln, Alabama. Honda has a second production plant in Marysville, Ohio. The Lincoln plant has been up and running for two decades and is now the exclusive facility assigned to build Honda's SUVs, including the also new Pilot TrailSport. Honda Honda Honda "Our Honda team has been building light trucks in Lincoln for over two decades, and we're incredibly proud to apply that manufacturing know-how and skill to every new model we produce," said Vice President and Alabama Auto Plant Lead Bob Schwyn. "Starting production of the new 2022 Passport and Passport TrailSport is a great way to kick off our next 20 years of Honda manufacturing in Alabama." Priced from $42,470 before the $1,225 destination charge, the Passport TrailSport comes powered by the familiar naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Honda Honda Honda Also standard are seats with orange contrast stitching, all-season rubber floor mats, amber ambient lighting, and a black chrome gauge surround. More importantly, it offers a slightly higher ground clearance over the regular model, a torque-vectoring all-wheel drive system, heated windshield wipers, and electronically foldable side mirrors. Honda says it has additional upgrade plans for future model years, such as an off-road-tuned suspension with better tires. Both the Passport TrailSport and Pilot TrailSport could be just the beginning of a wider off-road program. What we'd really like to see (and there's no reason why this can't happen) is a Ridgeline TrailSport. Fingers crossed it'll come for 2023. Honda Honda Honda
