There' s Bad News About The 2022 Ford Mustang

Bad news, muscle car fans: the Ford Mustang GT and Mach 1 are being downgraded for the 2022 model year. Back in October, Ford announced the naturally aspirated 5.0 Coyote V8 that powers the Mustang GT and Mach 1 will lose 10 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque to comply with tighter emissions regulations when the 2022 models launch next year. This means the 2022 Ford Mustang GT and Mach 1 will produce 450 hp/410 lb-ft of torque instead of 460 hp/420 lb-ft, respectively. This change was previously only confirmed for the US models, but now Ford Motor Company Canada has confirmed to Ford Authority that the Canadian version of the 2022 Mustang GT will also suffer the same power loss. Ford Ford Ford It hasn't been confirmed if Canada's Mach 1 will also get a power reduction, but it surely will as it's powered by the same engine. As well as detuning the V8, Ford is also discontinuing the Carbon Sport Interior package when the 2022 Mustang launches. Currently available for the 2021 EcoBoost, Premium, and GT trims, the Carbon Sport Interior package adds Alcantara trim to the door and seat inserts and carbon fiber inserts to the instrument panel and shifter. It's not all bad news, though, as three new appearance packages will be available for the 2022 Mustang including the Ice White package, Stealth Edition Appearance Package, and Coastal Limited Package. Ford Ford We particularly like the Ice White package, which will enable customers to spec their Mustang with an all-white exterior and interior for the first time in decades. The 2022 Ford Mustang is scheduled to start production at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant on January 3rd, 2022, though supply issues caused by the semiconductor chip shortage could delay production. It will be interesting to see if the power loss affects the Mustang's sales next year, especially as the Dodge Challenger is on track to overtake the Mustang this year and become 2021's best-selling muscle car. Some buyers may also choose to wait until 2023 when the redesigned Mustang is expected to arrive, which could also affect 2022 sales. Ford Ford Source Credits: Ford Authority
