Mercedes EQE SUV Ready To Show BMW Who' s Boss

Dec. 22, 2021 1:01 PM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 4 Comments Mercedes has been caught testing its new BMW iX fighter. The 2023 Mercedes EQE Sedan made its world debut at the Munich Auto Show back in September as the latest member of the electric EQ family. Slotting below the flagship EQS, the EQE Sedan will go on sale next year, but Mercedes has already started testing its SUV sibling. This will be the electric equivalent of the Mercedes GLE and slot above the EQC and below the EQS SUV. We got our first look at the Mercedes EQE SUV when a camouflaged prototype was spied outside the Nurburgring, and now the electric SUV has been spotted playing in the snow during intensive winter testing. Once again, the prototype is fully camouflaged and wrapped up warm for winter. In terms of proportions, however, it looks like a shrunken-down EQS SUV. CarBuzz CarBuzz The EQE SUV is noticeably smaller than its SUV sibling and has shorter front overhangs along with a gently sloping roofline and a subtle tailgate spoiler, lending it a sportier appearance than the EQS SUV. Judging from the flush door handles, the prototype appears to be based on the production version. The design details are hidden under the camouflage, but the headlights, taillights, and front grille will carry over from the EQE Sedan so it's not difficult to imagine what it will look like when the covers come off. Inside, the interior is also covered up, but the EQE Sedan gives us an idea of what we can expect. This means the cabin will be loaded with a 12.8-inch display for the MBUX infotainment system and a 12.3-inch driver display. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz If the standard tech isn't advanced enough for you, the EQE Sedan can also be equipped with Mercedes' swanky 56-inch Hyperscreen that stretches almost the entire width of the dashboard. It's also safe to assume the EQE SUV will share the same powertrain options as its sedan sibling. The entry-level RWD EQE is powered by a single motor generating 288 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque and a more powerful AWD variant will also join the lineup along with a rumored 671-hp AMG variant. On a single charge, the EQE Sedan has an electric driving range of 410 miles based on Europe's WLTP standard, but the larger SUV will have a slightly lower range. Mercedes hasn't announced when the EQE SUV will debut, but it will likely break cover next year after the EQS SUV is revealed. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
