We got our first glimpse of the design last month. During the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta where the BMW M8 GTE raced for the final time, BMW M Motorsport showed off the prototype racer's radical design to spectators as well as BMW Team RLL and BMW M works drivers for the first time. One member of the team also compares it to the Batmobile. While we don't get to see what the real race car looks like, BMW has revealed some design sketches previewing the aggressive design. LMDh cars are designed to resemble the brand they came from. As such, the BMW LMDh is instantly recognizable as a BMW thanks to its enormous kidney grilles that dominate the front fascia, combined with prominent front splitters, bulging fenders, a roof scoop, and a central cockpit. Unfortunately, we don't get a look at the rear or the side view. BMW BMW The second artistic render combines the old with the new, showing the new LMDh being reflected underneath the V12 LMR. "I can't find the words to describe just how excited and proud I am that we are being given this opportunity to race this car for BMW M Motorsport," said team principal Bobby Rahal. "It's a huge compliment for us. And the main reason it is so exciting is that we will be able to do battle for overall wins." Testing of BMW's LMDh prototype racer is expected to begin next year at the Varano circuit in Italy, so it hopefully won't be long until BMW M Motorsport reveals the final design and shows the LMDh prototype being put through its paces on the track. Back in June, BMW M boss Markus Flasch announced BMW Motorsport will enter the LMDh class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023 with a new prototype racer built in collaboration with Dallara that will compete for overall victories in Daytona, Sebring and Road Atlanta.
