Official BMW i4 And iX Range Numbers Are Mighty Impressive

In what's likely to be one of BMW's final announcements of the year (and certainly before Christmas), the German automaker has revealed official EPA figures for two of its newest models, the fully electric i4 and iX. Before we proceed any further, it should be noted that wheel and tire sizes make a difference for both vehicles' overall ratings. Let's start with the i4 four-door coupe. The i4 eDrive40 has a range of 301 miles when wearing 18-inch wheels. This figure drops to 282 miles with the optional 19-inch wheels. The more powerful i4 M50 receives a 270-mile rating with 19-inch wheels and 227 miles with the optional 20 inchers. Better performance and handling come at a sacrifice, EV or not. BMW BMW BMW It's also worth noting the eDrive40 and M50 have the same 83.9 kWh battery pack, though the latter has a dual-motor setup instead of a single motor. Regardless, wheels and tires clearly make a range difference. If you're interested in the iX SUV, then the first thing you should know is that there's currently just one spec on sale in the US: the xDrive50. A high-performance version with over 600 horsepower on tap, the iX M60, is due in the near future. The iX xDrive50 does come with three different tire sizes and, like the i4, this affects the overall range. BMW BMW BMW The entry-level 20-inch wheels are rated at a very respectable 324 miles while the mid-pack 21-inchers still manage to exceed the 300-mile mark coming in at 305 miles. Wearing the optional 22-inch wheels, described by BMW as "Air Performance Wheels" due to their design allowing for better airflow over the wheels, delivers a 315-mile rating. The iX xDrive50 features a pair of electric motors powered by a 100 kWh battery pack. Total output is about 500 horsepower and 0-60 mph takes less than five seconds. If you think that's fast, then imagine what the iX M60 will be capable of. BMW BMW BMW
