Ford' s Puma Rally Car Is The Hyper Hatch Of Our Dreams

The 2022 Fiesta ST was revealed there just a couple of months ago, and, as evidenced by recent spy shots, an even faster version seems to be in the works. But that's not the only small Ford that we're missing out on. There's also the Puma, which Ford was rumored to want to bring Stateside, and now there's a rally version that will be competing in the 2022 World Rally Championship. It's called the M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1, and it recently got a starring role in a short, Christmas-themed film that is a riot to watch.
Ford Ford Like the base version of the Ford Mustang, this new racer is powered by an EcoBoost engine. But because this is entering WRC, the 2.3-liter motor of the Mustang isn't there. Instead, it's a 1.6-liter version that is supplemented by a 100-kilowatt electric motor and a 3.9-kilowatt-hour battery for more performance. This hybrid system is both liquid- and air-cooled. Replacing the Fiesta rally car will be a tough ask, as that car won three world titles since it was introduced in 2017, but Ford is no stranger to rallying success and should have the means to mount a serious challenge to the likes of Toyota and Hyundai. Ford Ford Driver Adrien Fourmaux shows just how nimble and quick the new Puma rally car is in the above clip, which shows a Ford factory being prepared for a big Christmas party. Fourmaux seems to have something against a clean and tidy factory, as the ensuing carnage is not unlike what you would have seen in a Ken Block film from a couple of years ago. The video is not just about promoting the rally car though, as the plant at which this is filmed (based in Craiova, Romania) has recently produced its 1-millionth car.
