This 2021 C8 Corvette Is A $77 000 Bargain
Dec. 29, 2021 7:14 PM ET by Gerhard Horn Supercars / 18 Comments There's only one slight problem... You can now buy a Torch Red 2021 C8 Corvette Stingray 1LT for the small price of $76,900, which is only $17,000 more than the list price when it was new. That's a bargain compared to the Porsche 911 Turbo money people currently pay for these things. There's only one problem, however. As you can see from the images, it's not exactly in pristine condition. It's a salvage title, and it has some extensive damage. On the plus side, it only has 1,225 miles on the clock. Cars with similar mileage, but without the damage, are retailing for roughly $100,000. eBay eBay eBay The eBay listing doesn't say what happened to the car, but we can hazard an educated guess. It has both front and rear end damage, which means it most likely spun and hit a few things until it came to a halt. The 1,225 miles on the clock is roughly the number of miles it takes the average person to get comfortable enough to switch the nannies off. And with the Corvette being a mid-engined supercar with 490 hp, it takes no prisoners. This accident reeks of extreme hubris. The most severe damage was to the driver's ego. Thankfully, it happened at a low speed. You can tell because the airbags have not been deployed, and every piece of glass is still intact. eBay eBay eBay This brings us to an interesting question. Could you buy this salvaged car and repair it for less than you'd pay for a used example with similar mileage? To make the investment worthwhile, it would have to cost no more than $90,000 all in. Any more than that, and you might as well fork over $100,000 for the many pristine used examples out there. That leaves just $13,100 to do all the repairs. It seems doable, as most of the damage is to the front and rear bumper. There are some minor scratches elsewhere on the car, but nothing too serious. Crucially, the interior is intact, and everything still works fine. We're on the fence with this one. Would you buy this rather than an overpriced used example or wait a few years for a brand-new model? Let us know in the comments section below. eBay eBay eBay eBay Join The Discussion
