Mercedes-AMG' s Magnificent V8 Gets The 700-HP Send-Off It Deserves

Dec. 06, 2021 6:37 AM ET by Martin Bigg Tuning / 1 Comment Thanks to Manhart. It will soon be the end of an era at Mercedes-AMG. To meet stricter emissions regulations, the next AMG C63 will ditch its magnificent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in favor of an electrified four-cylinder unit, much to the dismay of enthusiasts. If you want a V8-powered AMG C63, you may want to snap up the 2021 model while you still can before it's replaced by the next-generation model.
Before it gets electrified, Manhart is giving the V8-powered C63 the send-off it deserves with a new bonkers build dubbed the CR 700 Wagon. Based on the C63 Wagon, which sadly isn't sold in the US, the CR 700's V8 has been cranked up to a whopping 712 horsepower and 678 lb-ft of torque, up from 503 hp and 516 lb-ft in the regular AMG C63 S. Manhart Manhart Manhart Manhart This massive performance boost was achieved by installing larger turbochargers and a carbon intake, upgrading the intercooler, and remapping the ECU. To handle all that extra power, the nine-speed automatic transmission is also upgraded, but the brakes have been left stock for some reason. With Manhart's upgrades, the monster wagon will now accelerate from 62-124 mph in just 5.5 seconds. To enhance the roaring V8 soundtrack, the exhaust system can be fitted with sports downpipes featuring 200-cell catalytic converters or the catalytic converters can be removed. The latter is obviously the best option for performance, but it's not legal everywhere. Manhart Manhart Manhart Manhart On the outside, the Manhart CR 700 Wagon rides on custom 20-inch double-spoke wheels in satin black with gold rim pinstripes, wrapped in high-performance 255/30ZR20 high-tires on the front axle and 275/30ZR20 tires on the rear. Rounding off the upgrades are coilovers that offer infinite adjustability for the wagon's ride height and naturally help to improve handling ability.. As for the next-generation AMG C63, rumors suggest that adding electrical assistance will boost the output to 550 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque enabling AMG to take the fight to the new BMW M3 - but it won't sound as soul-stirring as a rumbling V8.
