US deliveries of the BMW iX are set to begin in Q2 2022, ushering in a new era of lavish electric BMW SUVs. Thanks to its prominent grille, the styling is an acquired taste, though it looks restrained compared to the ungainly Concept XM, BMW's first standalone model since the seminal M1. In its regular xDrive50 guise, the iX packs two electric motors producing a combined 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. With power sent to all four wheels and instant torque, the iX will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. BMW BMW BMW The performance is impressive for an SUV, but BMW is cooking up an even faster M60 variant that will take it to the next level. BMW has already confirmed the high-performance iX M60 will debut at CES in Las Vegas next month, and now thanks to Automotive News we know the performance specifications. According to the publication, the iX M60's dual-motor setup will produce a combined 611 hp, which is 95 more horses than its standard sibling. We're also expecting the M60 to get the same 111.5 kWh battery as the xDrive50. Thanks to its extra grunt, the iX M60 will reportedly do the 0-60 mph sprint in only 3.7 seconds, making it 0.7 seconds faster than the xDrive50 and matching the performance of the i4 M50. BMW BMW No torque figure was revealed, but it's safe to assume it will have more torque than the standard version. If you're wondering how increased performance affects the driving range, the publication claims the M60 will have a maximum range of 357 miles on a single charge. However, it's worth noting this estimate is likely based on the European WLTP standard, which is less conservative than America's EPA standard. In the US, the xDrive50 has an EPA-estimated range of 300 miles, so we would expect the range to drop below 300 miles in the M60.
