Don' t Expect To See The Electric Jeep Gladiator Anytime Soon

Nov. 30, 2021 4:55 PM ET by Sebastian Cenizo Off-Road / 3 Comments We have a long wait ahead of us. Stellantis is investing heavily in its electrification strategy as it looks to keep up with the rest of the industry. With the arrival of the Wrangler 4xe already showing that a hybrid powertrain can be very capable, people are wondering when the pickup version of the exceptional off-roader will arrive. After all, the Jeep Gladiator is arguably even more utilitarian than the Wrangler, so why not give the market two options? Well, a Gladiator 4xe is inevitable, but according to a report by Mopar Insiders, we may have a long wait ahead of us. Its sources claim that the Gladiator will only get an MCA (mid-cycle-action, or refresh) for the 2024 model year, at which point the 4xe powertrain will also arrive.
Jeep Jeep It's unclear if the Gladiator's hybrid system will be a refreshed version of that currently offered in the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe or if the same figures we get now will continue to be on the spec sheet come the new model year. It would make sense for Jeep to update the system by then to remain competitive, but the existing setup isn't too bad as things stand. In the Wrangler, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot is mated to a pair of electric motors and a 400-volt, 17-kWh battery pack. In total, the system produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Jeep Jeep With a full charge, the electrified Wrangler is officially capable of up to 21 miles of all-electric range but real-world evaluations have seen slightly higher figures. This is partly because the electrified off-roader also boasts regenerative braking. Considering the reduced brake pad wear and all the other benefits of this particular model, we feel that the 4xe is the best Jeep to buy, so we wait with bated breath for the Gladiator to become even more attractive. We'll report back once we have more details, but whatever updates may or may not come to the 4xe offering, we've got a long wait ahead of us. Jeep Jeep Jeep Source Credits: Mopar Insiders
