Nissan' s Electrification Roadmap Makes Room For ICE Cars

Automakers across the globe are gradually revealing their electrification plans for the years and decades ahead. Some companies have already announced when they will transition to fully electric lineups. For Honda, this monumental turning point will come in 2040. Kia announced that Europe will be the first of its major markets to go fully electric in 2035. Now, Nissan has shared its own electrification goals. By 2030, the maker of products as diverse as the Ariya and GT-R wants hybrids and EVs to account for half of all its sales. But that's just one part of a product roadmap that will be expanded upon next week. Nissan Nissan Nissan As reported by Nikkei Asia, Nissan will increase investment in electrification technologies by over 30% over the next decade. By the end of this decade, Nissan expects electric vehicle sales in China to reach 50% of all models and 80% in Europe. However, Nissan believes that gas-powered cars will still be selling strongly in the United States and China in 2030. Even though Nissan got a headstart on most rivals with the successful Leaf, other automakers have caught up with and even surpassed Nissan with a brace of newer, more exciting EVs. Fortunately, Nissan EV sales should pick up once again now that reservations for the Ariya have opened. Nissan Nissan Nissan Nissan's electrification goals will be bolstered by its UK plant that will be converted to handle the manufacturing of electrified models. Nissan has already invested around $26 million in the 10 years until fiscal 2020, and this will be increased by 30% over the next decade. By fiscal 2026, Nissan will launch another 10 EVs. We've already seen a teaser of a coupe-like SUV and there's no doubt that more body styles are on the way. As for how Nissan's electrification roadmap will all pan out, we'll know more on Monday, November 29. This is when Nissan will reveal its long-term vision in a live stream on YouTube.
