The Sexy French Luxury Sedan We Want In America

Buick's long-term future became a bit of a mystery after French automaker PSA Group purchased Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors. GM's Opel and Vauxhall brand developed several current Buick models, including the Regal Sportback, meaning the company will have to move in a different direction with its future vehicles. But what about the other side of that purchase, the PSA Group? If you live in the United States, you've probably never heard of PSA - but that may soon change. PSA Group currently includes the Peugeot, Citroen, and DS (now Opel and Vauxhall) brands and the French automaker has tentative plans to enter the US market by 2025. We aren't sure which vehicles will end up making it to American shores but recent spy shots of a new DS model have us hoping it will be among the cars offered here in a few years time. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz It's called the DS 8, a flagship sedan meant to rival luxury models like the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. Underneath, the car is underpinned by the same EMP2 platform found on another stunning sedan, the Peugeot 508, meaning it may come with a similar plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Peugeot currently offers the 508 with a 225-horsepower hybrid powertrain with an impressive 30-mile electric range, though this luxury DS model could produce more power. When the DS 8 arrives on the market in 2020, it is expected to pack a range of gasoline and diesel engines with plug-in hybrid assistance. It will first be available in China, with availability extending to Europe later on. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz PSA has yet to officially announce its official return to the US market or which brand(s) would be offered. If DS is chosen, the DS 8 would be a welcome addition to the US market. Sadly, with sedan sales plummeting, it seems more likely the first (and likely only) French cars we will get in the US will be crossovers and SUVs. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
