Ford' s Massive Mustang Party Didn' t Happen In America

Sep. 15, 2019 4:35 PM ET by Jay Traugott Muscle Cars / 3 Comments This wasn't just any party but rather a new world record. The Ford Mustang is not only wildly popular in North America, but in many other parts of the world, too. And now that Ford sells its latest generation Mustang in overseas markets, more people than ever are able to get behind the wheel of the original pony car. To celebrate the Mustang's very existence, Mustang owners gathered to help Ford set a new record for the greatest number of Mustangs in a single parade. Thing is, this didn't happen in the US, nor Canada, but rather Europe. More specifically, Belgium. A grand total of 1,326 Mustangs from every generation dating back to 1964 gathered from all over Europe at Ford's Lommel Proving Ground in Belgium on September 7 to set the new world record. Ford ended up beating its own record of 960 Mustangs, set in Toluca, Mexico on December 3, 2017. Ford Ford Ford Ford As the Mustangs headed to Belgium, they were driven in a convoy with no more than 20 meters between each car. Owners and their cars also took part in a special choreography to celebrate the Mustang's 55th anniversary. There was even a P51 Mustang WWII vintage fighter plane fly-over. Not only is the Mustang the world's best-selling sports coupe, but it's also a smash hit in Europe. According to Ford, a total of 5,500 examples were sold in the first half of this year alone, an increase of 3.7 percent from the same period last year. Turns out Belgium, of all countries, is the hottest Mustang market in Europe, hence the decision to hold this even at Lommel. Ford Ford Ford Ford No doubt this is an impressive achievement for Ford but next time a Mustang gathering event is scheduled we'd love to see it happen in America. We doubt we're alone on this. If Ford puts out the call for America's Mustang enthusiasts to gather to set a new world record, there's no doubt they'll come. Ford Ford Ford Ford Ford Ford Ford
