Unveiled today at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Hyundai's new electric touring car is nominally based on the Veloster, but it's nothing like the one you can pick up at your showroom. This one's completely powered by batteries, for starters, and places its electric motor in the middle, behind the cockpit, driving the rear wheels. "Today, we have experienced another special milestone in the history of Hyundai Motorsport. We are proud to reveal the Hyundai Veloster N ETCR, our first electric race car, designed specifically for ETCR regulations," said Hyundai's performance chief Thomas Schemera. ETCR is the natural next step in our journey, and one that aligns perfectly to Hyundai's global strategy for electric vehicle production." This reveal makes Hyundai the second automaker to sign on for the new Electric Touring Car Racing series, following Seat's Cupra e-Racer. Expect to see more carmakers revealing their own electric racing machines in the near future as the series gears up for its first season next year. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai
