Big Changes Coming For New Subaru WRX STI

The current-generation Subaru WRX Sedan and WRX STI has been on sale since 2014 with the 2019 model year update introducing a few changes including better tech and a power increase up to 310 hp for the hot STI model. However, Japan's Best Car magazine claims the next-generation model WRX will arrive in the second half of the year with a slew of changes, including a new platform and engine. Subaru Subaru According to the publication, the next-generation WRX will switch to the new Subaru Global Platform, which underpins the Impreza as well as the new Legacy and Outback. This should increase the sports car's rigidity and improve comfort and handling. Allegedly, the new WRX will be powered by a downsized 1.8-liter turbocharged boxer engine that will produce around 270 horsepower. Initially, a CVT gearbox will be the only transmission option available. Subaru Subaru As for the WRX STI, BestCarWeb claims it will use a FA20 boxer-four engine with an output of around 315 hp paired with a six-speed manual transmission, which is around the same output as the current US-spec WRX STI. This is also the same engine as the current US model, so chances are it will carry over to the next-generation WRX STI in America as well. As expected, the styling of the next-generation WRX STI will be inspired by the striking Viziv Performance Concept unveiled in 2017, and that's a very good thing. Although the new WRX and WRX STI aren't expected to enter production until the second half of next year, the Japanese publication claims both models will be previewed by new concepts at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show this November.
