McLaren To Leave Ferrari 488 Pista In the Dust

McLaren and Ferrari are not usually on the same product release cycle, meaning Woking's road-focused supercars are often left to do battle with the Prancing Horse's track-ready special cars. In the case of the 720S, this hasn't been much of an issue, with the 488 Pista only being marginally faster on a neutral track. So if the standard 720S is already almost quick enough to match a special edition Ferrari, how bonkers is the LT version going to be? Around a month ago, we caught wind that McLaren was developing a track-focused version of the 720S called the 750LT. A test mule was even caught on video at the Nurburgring and now the development car has been sighted once again. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz The prototype essentially looks like a matte black 720S but we expect the final product to arrive with more styling differences over the standard car. McLaren has fitted the test mule with some aggressive aero pieces including canards, a larger front spoiler, and an extra gurney flap in the rear, meaning it will have a lot more downforce than the 720S. One of the only faults with the 720S is its tendency to feel unstable at very high speed, so this 750LT will likely correct the issue with more high-speed stability. 'LT' stands for Long Tail, meaning the 750LT should be slightly longer than the 720S from front to back. This will likely be because of the extra aero in the front and rear rather than an actual increase in wheelbase. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Along with the additional aero, the 750LT will be lighter than the standard car, increasing its track performance. Also expect to see a power increase from the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 over the standard car's 710 horsepower figure.
