Hyundai Wants To Upstage The Germans At Their Own Show

Hyundai has made no secret its plans to have quite a large presence at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show. Typically, this is the bi-annual event where the German brands debut their latest and best. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and the entire Volkswagen Group will be there in full force. Hyundai, however, wants to shake up their party. The South Korean automaker has already dropped several hints and a few teaser images of what it's planning in a few weeks' time, such as the reveal of the overseas-only i10 hatchback and Hyundai Motorsport's first-ever electric race car. Today, Hyundai released this single teaser image of its 45 all-electric concept. Although it's only a rear-end shot, there's clearly a wedge styling theme going on there. Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai That's very much on purpose because Hyundai says its new concept not only has a "focus towards the future direction of car design… [but is] inspired by looking back at the [its] first model in the 1970s." Cool. Some specific styling details are hard to make out, but this rear-end shot pretty clearly indicates this concept is a hatchback. Two-door? Four-door? Unknown, but we're digging it nonetheless. Hyundai further adds the new concept "accentuates the forward-driven design direction while exploring the evolution (of its) 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language." Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai's design department has taken a massive leap forward in recent years thanks to the hiring of major talent, including Peter Schreyer and Luc Donckerwolke. The latter, for those who don't already know, designed the Lamborghini Murcielago and Gallardo nearly two decades ago. It should go without saying the guy knows a thing or two about wedge shapes and dynamic design in general.
