Is The 2020 Corvette Really Sold Out

There was an awful lot of buzz, to say the least, about the C8 and the first-ever mid-engine design for a production Corvette, so it was quite understandable for there to be a mad rush to place an order. But remember, this is General Motors we're talking about there, not a small or another boutique automaker with limited production resources. The Corvette even has its own dedicated production facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky. According to a new report from the folks at GM Authority, Chevy is still very much accepting orders for the 2020 C8. Speaking with Chevrolet Senior Manager of Car and Crossover Communications, Keven Kelly, the automaker is "continuing to take orders for the 2020 Corvette Stingray," despite another GM official stating earlier the C8 was "nearly sold out" for 2020. And remember, one of the key reasons why the decision was made to drop the front-engined setup was a need to attract younger buyers. The problem plaguing previous Corvettes, including the C7, was that it appealed mostly to older buyers. It's not that some younger customers don't have the cash available, it's just that they rarely even considered a Corvette because of so many other options out there, including Porsches, McLarens, and even Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Emilio Flores via Chevrolet Looking at the C8 Stingray's specs – and it's just the base model – it's quite clear these are nearly supercar figures already. Just wait until even higher performance variants begin to arrive. At the moment, the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V8 has 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque when paired to the optional performance exhaust system. The sole gearbox (at least so far) is an 8-speed dual-clutch. Expect a 0-60 mph time of less than 3 seconds and a top speed of around 194 mph. The Corvette is now a supercar? Based on these numbers, it appears so. No wonder demand was been so high, but we think Chevy will be able to accommodate all who want one this year.
