Rolls-Royce Cullinan Has A Surprise For The Bentley Bentayga
Aug. 19, 2019 1:45 PM ET by Jay Traugott Luxury / Comments And it's likely to arrive soon. The Bentley Bentayga has proven to be a solid sales success for the ultra-luxury British marque. With a lineup consisting of a W12, twin-turbo V8, diesel, and a plug-in hybrid, there's literally a Bentayga for everyone, assuming they've got the money. Eventually, Bentley will launch an all-out electric SUV, though we still don't know whether it'll wear the Bentayga nameplate. And then there's the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Bentayga's most direct rival. Arriving three years after the Bentayga, the Cullinan definitely has some catching up to do regarding variants. But now, thanks to AutoGuide, it appears something is about to happen. The publication managed to uncover a new filing by the California Air Resources Board indicating the automaker will soon reveal a Black Badge version of the Cullinan. Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce If you recall, the Black Badge is the new moniker applied to more powerful variants of existing Rolls-Royce models, most recently the Dawn Black Badge. In that case, the convertible's 6.6-liter bit-turbo V12 was upgraded from 563 horsepower to 593 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. The Cullinan is currently only powered by a 6.75 twin-turbo V12 making 563 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. If this Black Badge power boost formula continues, expect at least another 30-50 horsepower and 50 lb-ft of torque, give or take. And with extra output, other modifications immediately become necessary, such as a modified suspension and various other tuning elements. Pricing? Rolls-Royce will likely request an additional $50,000 more over the standard Cullinan, which brings the price tag to around $375,000. Then again, Rolls-Royce will be more than happy to further customize the SUV for anyone with money to blow. The sky's the limit in this regard and we wouldn't at all be shocked to see a Cullinan Black Badge topping off at around $500,000. Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce Join The Discussion
