Meet The 717-HP Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Daytona

Aug. 15, 2019 6:10 AM ET by Ian Wright Muscle Cars / 14 Comments Celebrating the 50 years of the infamous Charger Daytona. When Dodge refreshed the Challenger SRT Hellcat and tuned the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 up to 717 horsepower, we started to wonder if the four-door Charger would ever get the same upgrade. After all, even when the Charger Hellcat was introduced after the Hellcat's upgrade it still came with the original 707 horsepower engine. But now Dodge has cranked up the horses on the Charger SRT Hellcat for a limited-run edition: the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition. Dodge Dodge Dodge The Charger Daytona 50th Anniversary Edition pays tribute to the legendary 1969 Charger Daytona, the special edition that was designed with the sole intention of winning high-profile NASCAR races. While piloting one of the race cars with its huge wing and massive nose, Buddy Baker became the first NASCAR driver to break through the 200 mph barrier. The Charger Daytona won two races in 1969 and another four in 1970 before being replaced by the 1970 Plymouth Superbird. Only 51 of the widebody 2020 Charger Daytona will be built to reflect the 1969 production total. Along with the extra 10 horses, it also features 20-inch silver wheels in a color Dodge calls Satin Carbon, a lip spoiler, and rear-quarter decal with matching spoiler on a unique "Daytona" decklid. Dodge Dodge Inside, the Charger Daytona gets "Daytona" embroidered seats, a carbon-fiber instrument panel, blue stitching throughout, and a suede headliner. Passengers get to look at the numbered plaque embedded in the dash to see which number of the 51 models produced they are sitting in. The Charger Daytona Special Edition will be available in 4 colors: Pitch Black, Triple Nickel, White Knuckle, and the pictured B5 Blue that's exclusive to the 2020 anniversary Charger. It will be first seen on display during the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Pontiac, Michigan, this Saturday, August 17 but orders won't be open from dealers until the fall. Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge
