Say Hello To The BMW Concept 4 A New Look For The Brand

Sep. 10, 2019 3:00 AM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Reveal / 27 Comments The question is, do you like it? The current BMW 3 Series is a massive improvement over the outgoing model and we've known for a while that the two-door 4 Series version is in the works, with various test mules being spotted all over Germany. It seemed like BMW was finally ready to show off the production 4 Series at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show but instead, the company has just revealed a concept version called the Concept 4.
BMW has promised the production 4 Series coupe will look radically different than the 3 Series sedan and this concept is proof. "The BMW Concept 4 embodies the aesthetic essence of the BMW brand. It combines perfect proportions with a clear and precise design," says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz One element stands out above all else when looking at the Concept 4 - the enormous grille. If you didn't like the kidneys on the new X7 or 7 Series, you probably won't be too fond of this new grille design either. BMW says the new design is meant to make the car look like it is hovering close to the ground. The verticle orientation of the kidneys also harkens back to the company's past models like the 328 and 3.0 CSi. "The kidney grille has always been a signature feature of BMW cars," says Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design. "The BMW Concept 4 presents a confident and classy take on this iconic feature. At the same time, the BMW Concept 4 offers a look ahead to the expressive face of the 4 Series range." Look closer at the grille and you can even see a small array of the "number 4s" joined together. If the grille doesn't instantly attract your attention, the Forbidden Red paint and 21-inch dished wheels certainly will. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz This being a concept, BMW has not released any details on the powertrain but it's safe to assume the engines will be shared with the 3 Series. We can expect a 430i powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 255 horsepower and an M440i powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 380 hp. There will also be an M4 variant, later on, producing between 444 hp and 500 hp from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six. BMW seems adamant the production version of the 4 Series will look like this concept, which seems like good news. BMW BMW BMW BMW
