Forget The Rumors The Chevy Cavalier Will Stay Dead

In the automotive world, that's Chevrolet. The American automaker has been on a huge nostalgia kick, bringing back the Blazer name on a mid-size crossover and announcing the return of the Trailblazer as a sub-compact model. But don't think Chevy is done playing the nostalgia card because the company may be bringing back yet another nameplate from its past - and this one will probably surprise you. The Drive noticed a very interesting image on Chevy's press site linking to a gallery labeled "2020 Chevrolet Cavalier." Clicking on the link brought up a black web page with an "MX" URL, meaning the Cavalier may end up being for the Mexico market. We reached out to Chevy for comment and a spokesperson said, "the text on that page was a clerical error, and the image it's below is a Midnight Edition Equinox." Chevrolet Chevrolet "The page has since been updated with accurate information," the spokesperson told CarBuzz. So although Chevy says the image seen here is just the Equinox, we can't completely rule out the Cavalier's return to the United States just yet. Chevy recently requested the trademark rights to the Cavalier name in the US, meaning it could still make a surprising comeback in some shape or form, possibly in the Mexican market only. Chevrolet Chevrolet Chevrolet While this was just an error on Chevy's part, we wouldn't be surprised if the company ended up using the Cavalier name on a future product given the company's recent track record with reviving nameplates. The Cavalier nameplate doesn't carry as much fond nostalgia as the Blazer but the badge is still used to great effect in other markets like China. Equinox has pretty strong brand recognition in the US, so it seems like an unlike choice for a rebadge, but the Trax is lesser-known, so a name change might not be out of the question.
